New signing at Denizlispor of Turkey, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi is targeting an instant debut with the club he officially joined on Wednesday, as he is angling for a shirt just 24 hours later, when the team line out against his former club, Trabzonspor, on Thursday in the Turkish FA Cup, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although his club are struggling in the Turkish Super Lig, where they are current placed 11th on the log, Onazi is optimistic of breathing new life into the team at Denizli Atatürk Stadium, and it could not be a more dramatic start to life for him, as they prepare to tango his former side.
Indeed, there was a major falling out between Onazi and the top brass at Trabzonspor towards the end of last year, as the Trabzon-based side were said to have released the former Super Eagles’ vice-captain on account of his repeated struggles with injuries, but he is targeting Thursday for his debut and then a crack against Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.
Although Onazi spoke out vehemently back then to rebuff reports of his sack by Trabzonspor, the media was abuzz once again on Wednesday with reports of his transfer to their Super Lig rivals in a permanent deal running for a year and half.
It is now left to be see if Onazi, who survived a yearlong battle with injury before returning to training early last month at Trabzonspor, will be dressed for his new team’s away round of 16 Cup fixture against John Mikel and Anthony Nwakaeme, who are still both at Trabzonspor.
Nonetheless, Onazi is again looking on the bright side of life, as he excitedly took to social media to celebrate his new deal, posting late Wednesday: “The year started with blessing… Denizli I am here, let’s make the difference. I can’t wait for my first game. #gracespeaksforme #big23.”
