CD Leganes of Spain defender, Kenneth Omeruo and FC Nantes of France winger, Moses Simon are both in a race against time in order to be fit for appearances in the Nigerian national team camp a day after this coming weekend, megasportsarena.com reports.
With the super eagles set to open camp next Monday, ahead of their double clashes with Sierra Leone in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Omeruo and Simon will have to overcome injury setbacks that hit them last weekend.
Details of the development in France revealed that that Simon was substituted in the 25th minute of Nantes’ 3-0 loss to Paris-Saint Germaine on Saturday night and it is feared that he had suffered an adductor problem.
Regional newspaper, Ouest-France has hinted that the former KAA Gent of Belgium and SK Trencin of Slovakia winger, who missed a sitter ten minutes before he was substituted against PSG, could now be heading for a spell out of action.
That would be a huge blow to Simon’s ambitions, as he is yet to replicate his form of last season, which made Nantes sign him for five million euros from Levante, as he currently has a single goal in eight matches and was a second-half substitute in the penultimate round of matches in the French Ligue 1.
Similarly, information on offer from The Land of The Armada indicates that Omeruo suffered an injury three minutes into the second half as Leganes grinded out a 1-0 win against Mirandes in a Segunda Division match at Estadio Municipal de Butarque on Sunday afternoon.
The dark-skinned central defender now faces a minimum of two weeks on the sidelines, thereby making him a huge doubt for the Eagles’ upcoming games in Benin City and Freetown, with Omeruo’s spot set to be taken by one of Semi Ajayi, Leon Aderemi Balogun, Kevin Akpoguma and Chidozie Awaziem alongside vice-captain, William Troost-Ekong.
Leganes coach, José Luis Martí disclosed that the former youth international has suffered a hamstring-related injury and he further told Spanish sports daily, Diario AS: “Omeruo has noticed a discomfort in the hamstring, in the back. We will see the resonance it may have.”
