Former Super Eagles invitee, Kayode Olarewaju was the top player to pick among an array of ‘unpopular’ Nigerian players that got goals for their respective clubs this past weekend.
Megasportsarena.com reports that goals came in Norway, Romania and Italy’s lower division from the unheralded Nigerian lads, but Kayode’s stunner against Ahmed Musa’s side was pick of the pack.
In Romania, Divine Chika Odoh opened his goals’ account for ACS Foresta Suceava, as the 19-year-old lad, who was born in Abuja, started justifying a recent two-year-contract with the club.
Odoh scored two hat-tricks in six test games, with eight strikes overall and three assists, to seal his deal with the club that are now fourth in the table with seven points from four matches in Liga 3.
In Norway, Jordan Kadiri fired home his first league goal for Stromgodset, on the back of a hat-trick in the FA Cup earlier this week.
The dreadlocks-wearing striker, who is on loan from Lommel SK of Belgium, after a rather difficult time with the second division side, hit target in the 75th minute against Sarpsborg 08.
Kadiri entered the game in the 72nd minute to score his team’s fifth goal, while fellow Nigerian, Jack Ipalibo also scored for Stromgodset in the 40th minute.
Another Nigerian lad, Fred Friday played the entire 90 minutes for Stromgodset, who have now climbed to seventh on the table with 28 points from 20 games.
In Italy’s lower division, Orji Okwonkwo continued his sweet start to the season in Serie B with AS Cittadella, as he scored a consolation goal in a 2-1 home loss to Lecce.
The 23-year-old Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist, who is on loan from Bologna, from where he previously starred in similar deals at Reggina and Brescia of Italy as well as Montreal Impact of Canada, got the equaliser in the 45th minute.
Okwonkwo has now scored four goals in six games, but Cittadella are 11th on the second-tier league table with nine points from seven matches.
Tops of the lot, though, was in Turkey, where Kayode scored his first goal of the Turkish Super Lig season for Sivasspor and helped his side to a 4-0 trouncing over Musa’s faith Karagumruk.
Kayode hit target as early as the first minute and, while Musa played the entire game but could not save his side from defeat, Azubuike Okechukwu was a 76th sub for the winners.
