Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine striker, Olarewaju Kayode has been hit with a major stumbling block in his hope of sealing a full transfer to Gaziantep FK of Turkey, as the Turkish Super Lig side have confessed that they cannot afford to pay his wages, megasportsarena.com reports.
The 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup silver medalist on home soil in Abuja had been hoping to seal a formal switch to the club he played for on loan last season, but his hopes are now facing a major blockade, following reports that Gaziantep have admitted that the cash implications of his full transfer would be too heavy for they to carry.
Consequently, Gaziantep have gone public to disclose that transfer talks with Kayode have been suspended, as they are unable to meet up with the striker’s financial expectations, after the ex-Manchester City of England signing and former top scorer in the Austrian Bundesliga enjoyed a successful loan spell at the modest club from Shakhtar Donetsk this past season.
During the season in review, Kayode, who previously played on loan from Man City at Girona of Spain, scored 11 goals in the Super Lig and helped the club place eighth on the final table in their first season back in the Turkish top-flight; but he may not be around to consolidate those gains.
This is sequel to an open confession by Gaziantep that they will not be able to take their cordial agreement with Shakhtar all the way, as further discussions have been hampered by the player’s wage demands, which have slowed down their hopes of announcing an official fee for him.
The club’s statement read in part: “Our offer to Larry Kayode and his club continued in the past weeks, but the transfer negotiations were suspended due to the high salary demand of Kayode’s current contract.”
