Club Brugge of Belgium attacker, David Chidozie Okereke has received a strong expert tip for a move to the English Premier League, and attendant success along the way, megasportsarena.com reports.
With reports indicating that Southampton have expressed an interest in the former Spezia of Italy striker, despite his inability to tie down a regular starting shirt alongside fellow-Nigerian, Emmanuel Dennis Bonaventure at Club Brugge, the dreadlocks-wearing lad is being backed to excel in Queensland.
The solid technical backing is coming from Ternana of Italy coach, Fabio Gallo, who was in the technical crew at Spezia in Okereke’s breakthrough season, and he has now declared that the former under-23 national team, Olympic Eagles’ lad has enough quality to shine in England.
Okereke will get the opportunity to further excite Southampton and English football fans when he joins Brugge for the second leg of their UEFA Europa League round of 32 second leg fixture against Manchester United on Thursday.
He was an unused in the first-leg that ended 1-1, with Bonaventure scoring for Brugge, but odds remain high for Okereke, considering his massive start to life in Belgium, when he went on a goals scoring spree, which leaves him among sure bets for the club’s coach, Philippe Clement.
The all-action striker, who joined Brugge last summer after impressing with Spezia in the Italian Serie B, where he made his debut as an 18-year-old on April 9, 2016, left a lasting impression in his early days playing under the eyes of a coaching crew that included Gallo, an Atalanta legend.
The former midfielder of the club was in charge of Spezia’s U19 team between 2014 and 2016, during which time he helped cultivate the burgeoning talent of Okereke, who went on to gain 54 appearances for the first team after making his debut.
Dramatically, Okereke had been linked with Southampton and Juventus of Italy, before he took his focus to Belgium instead, and then signed a four-year contract with Club Brugge in July 2019 and he has already scored nine goals in 21 league matches, much to the delight of Gallo, who is of a strong view that the youngster can succeed in the EPL.
Gallo told Tribalfootball.com: “Okereke has shown great qualities in Italy and even now in Brugge. He’s showing his talent and I think that for his characteristics he could be suitable for English football.”
