Manchester United of England striker, Odion Jude Ighalo has admitted he is very excited with his club’s 2-0 victory over Leicester City last Sunday, as it got them into the UEFA Champions League next season, and the former Super Eagles’ star says he is proud of the team.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, although he got to play only added time of the encounter at King Power Stadium, Ighalo is still basking in the euphoria of having played a cameo role in the game that took his side to third place on the English Premier League’s final log.
The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer, who joined United on loan from Shanghai Shenhua of China in January and got an extension into next year last month, is now looking forward to more glory and better days ahead with The red Devils, who are still in the UEFA Europe League race.
The 31-year-old former player of Prime FC of Osogbo, Julius Berger FC of Lagos, Lyn Oslo of Norway, Udinese and Cesena of Italy, Granada of Spain, Watford of England and Changchun Yatai of China, is also hoping to continue his impressive form for The Red Devils in their pre-season games.
Having previously enjoyed success in his first feel of the EPL with Watford, for which he scored 36 goals in 90 appearances and won the December 2015 Player of the Month award, Ighalo also said he is happy for the support he has gained from his teammates since his arrival on transfer deadline day, following which he has scored five goals in five starts and 17 games altogether.
After netting four in his opening seven games, Ighalo’s displays earned him a loan extension with the Old Trafford outfit until January 2021 and the soft-spoken forward, who has 11 EPL appearances for United, stressed that it was a huge honour for him being part of the squad that galloped over The Foxes to clinch a place in the UCL.
Ighalo, who had 35 caps for the Super Eagles before his retirement from the Nigerian national team, took to social media to reveal his thoughts and revel in the success of the Old Trafford outfit, as he posted: “So proud of this team.”
