Trabzonspor of Turkey striker, Anthony Nwakaeme has admitted he was disappointed that his name was not included in the latest list of players invited to the Super Eagles, but added that he is staying upbeat for a recall to the national team sometime soon, megasportsarena.com reports.
While the former Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel net banger joked that Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has probably forgotten about him, Nwakaeme ruled out any ill feelings on his part, but assured that he will continue working hard and doing the best he can with his club, in order to get a call.
He further admitted he did not make the best of his debut away to Algeria years ago, which may be the factor Rohr is still weighing against him, but Nwakaeme noted that all he has to d o is continue to be in fine form for his Turkish Super Lig title-chasing.
The all-action striker, who has scored 12 goals this season in all competitions and 11 assists to his name, said he was happy netting his side’s fourth goal in a 5-2 win over Rizespor over the past weekend, as he believes more of such feats would spur Rohr to look his way once again.
Nwakaeme told Owngoalnigeria.com: “I don’t know why I am not in the national team. Maybe Rohr has forgotten about me but I believe I will get another chance if I continue with my form and help my team to the title. I really can’t wait to make up for the disappointment of not getting a look in the last time I was invited.”
