Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was eventually able to appease to protesting players of the under-20 national team, Flying Eagles, and reached an agreement for them to leave Poland on Wednesday.
This much was disclosed by NFF spokesman, Ademola Olajire who said the Flying Eagles will now leave the hotel in Warsaw, Poland, where they decided to stay put in protest over under paid wages after their elimination from the FIFA U-20 World Cup on Monday night.
The team had been expected to were due to leave on Tuesday, after a 2-1 loss to Senegal sent them packing from Poland 2019 in the round of 16, but the players refused to leave their hotel in Lodz, insisting that the NFF had failed to pay them $5,000 each as qualification bonus.
The delegation ended up missing their flight to Abuja, but Olajire said it was a minor occurrence in the Flying Eagles and assured that the squad will be back home on Wednesday.
Independent sources, though, said the players only accepted to sheathe their sword after a promise by NFF secretary-general, Dr Mohammed Sanusi that the bonus would be paid on their return to Nigeria.
Olajire told BBC Sport: “There was a minor delay but we are expecting the team to leave for Nigeria on Wednesday.”
