Leicester City of England midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi is about to face the biggest career decision so far, as he insists he will remain at King Power Stadium beyond this summer’s transfer window, despite the chances of moving to Paris-Saint Germaine of France in a €55m swoop, megasportsarena.com reports.
The French champions, who were crowned winners of this season’s contest in Ligue 1 last Thursday, despite the season being declared cancelled on account of coronavirus delays, have already expressed a formal bid to snatch the Super Eagles’ star from Leicester.
The move by PSG, though, comes hot on the heel of a staunch declaration by Ndidi that he will not dump The Foxes this summer, even as he is reported to have also attracted interest from Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Rather than jump at the prospects of joining forces with any of the top clubs in the English Premier League, Ndidi stressed that he was happy where he is, and is now left to be seen what his response will be to the offer of a move to Paris.
A report by ESPN detailed how PSG are keen on snatching the former Racing Genk of Belgium star, on account of his sterling performances over the recent seasons with Leicester, where he has caught the eye has caught the eye of many clubs in England and beyond.
Among his many admires is PSG’s sporting director, Leonardo, who raided Everton last summer for Idrissa Gueye, and now wants Ndidi to further help him beef up the ambitious Paris-based club’s midfield; which could make the youngster the next Nigerian to play for the French Ligue 1 aristocrats, after Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Godwin Okpara and Bartholomew Ogbeche.
The report by ESPN adds that Leicester would be ready to enter into an agreement with PSG over the possible sale of Ndidi this summer, but that would only be if the French outfit would meet their €55m assessment of the holding midfielder, who recently declared: “I am learning and trying to improve myself every day. I am doing OK here. So, no need to go anywhere.”
This comes barely 12 hours after Ndidi earned another massive leap in terms of statistics, as latest figures show he is the fourth best midfielder so far this season in the EPL, where the 23-year-old star, who is ranked as one of the best defensive midfielders, picked the best figures in tackles (92) and interceptions (61) than any other player.
According to football statistics website, Squawka, Ndidi ranks alongside Kevin de Bruyne of Manchester City, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum of Liverpool, Fred of Manchester United and Mateo Kovacic of Chelsea.
The accompanying citation he got from Squawka reads: “You may have been struck by Wilfred Ndidi’s importance to Leicester City during his recent spell on the sidelines. Across those five matches he missed, due to a troublesome knee injury, Brenda Rodgers’ men picked up just two points from 15 available while shipping seven goals.
“He is, without doubt, the glue which binds everything together in perfect harmony and there’s a strong case his presence allows everyone around him to excel, as we saw in those big wins over Newcastle United (3-0), West Ham (4-1) and Aston Villa (4-0), which happen to be his only league appearances in 2020 so far.”
