Leicester City of England midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi has taken to a bout of mock-boxing with The Foxes’ top striker, Jamie Vardy, as the Super Eagles’ star aims to prove his fitness ahead of Wednesday’s FA Cup clash with Birmingham City, megasportsarena.com reports.
Ndidi was back in action for his team last weekend against Norwich City, when he got off the bench at Carrow Road, but he is now angling for a starting shirt against Birmingham in midweek.
To confirm his availability for the FA Cup clash, Ndidi took to a gloves’ session with Vardy, and both players were filmed sparring like boxers at Leicester’s training base, with a view to using the various steps and moves in further horning their speed and agility towards upcoming games.
After Wednesday’s Cup game, Leicester will look to haul their English Premier League top-four challenge back on track against Aston Villa on Monday, for which Vardy will be rested for their midweek fixture, but there is already confirmation of a spot for Ndidi.
Leicester’s boss, Brendan Rodgers has already demanded that his side step up in front of goal, which should mostly bother Vardy, who missed the trip to Carrow Road, such that it would be no surprise seeing him go through mock-boxing paces with Ndidi.
Rodgers’ side appeared set to challenge Manchester City for second spot after a formidable run of form, but their momentum dimmed after collecting just one victory in their last five league games, such that victories on Wednesday and Monday are top of Vardy and Ndidi’s targets.
Last weekend, a limp defeat at struggling Norwich was compounded by Kelechi Iheanacho’s stellar strike being ruled out by VAR for handball, before Jamal Lewis’ goal dealt the visitors another hammer blow on 70 minutes.
In the final few seconds, Vardy connected with a lightning jab and sent the former Genk star tumbling, after which the Premier League’s joint-top scorer then raced out of the shot after dealing the damage, and struggled to contain his laughter.
Ndidi has now taken to social media to graphically capture how he and his team’s goals hero are preparing for the challenges ahead of them, as he posted an elaborate video of their mock-boxing bout and added a confident declaration: “We will back stronger.”
