Southampton of England youngster, Nathan Tella has declared that he is aiming for a huge impact this season in the English Premier League, because he wants to keep improving on a day-to-day basis, megasportsarena.com reports.
Speaking ahead of The Saints’ first game of the new season, Tella also admitted that the exit of Danny Igns has created space for him to excel among the big boys, but quickly interjected that he is taking undue advantage of the situation.
Rather than gloat over Igns exit as his biggest opening at Saint Mary’s Stadium, Tella, who joined Southampton in 2017 after spending ten years at Arsenal, admitted that he has a strong desire to play more first-team football in the EPL.
His chances have indeed been boosted by the departure of Ings in the summer transfer window, as Aston Villa signed the attacker on a three-year contract for £30m, thereby paving the way for Tella to further convince Southampton’s coach, Ralph Hasenhuttl, who gave him 22 games last season, eight as a starter.
That was a huge boost for Tella, who is capable of playing all roles in attack, including attacking midfield, second striker, center forward or right and left wing, which the Nigerian-born youngster now hopes he will be able to exploit to the fullest and show his true potentials.
Tella told HampshireLive: “I just see Danny leaving as another chance for me to play more football. I am not thinking about what he did here, I am focusing on myself.
“I am not looking to fill his boots. I am just trying to improve my game on a day-to-day basis. That’s all I want to do. I want to become the best player that I can possibly be.”
