Vitória de Guimarães of Portugal midfielder, Mikel Ndubuisi Agu has put his acquisition of Portuguese citizenship down to God’s grace in his life, as he acknowledged that it came through divine intervention on his behalf, megasportsarena.com reports.
The Benin City-born star, who Agu started his career Megapp FC before moving to FC Porto of Portugal, Club Brugge of Belgium, Bursaspor of Belgium and two separate spells with Vitória de Setúbal of Portugal, went on to categorically declare that it is another sign of God’s work in his life.
The 27-year-old Super Eagles midfielder went philosophical in declaring that there is nothing impossible for God to do and submitted that it is a reward for patience and faithfulness on his part, as he only got the Portuguese citizenship after a decade of residency in the Iberian nation.
This is despite the fact that Mikel, who first signed for Porto’s youth team in 2011 and made his debut against Gil Vicente in a 2-1 win, as a substitute, has been severally sent on loan to other clubs across Europe, before joining Guimarães in 2019.
He went on to feature 30 times and got a goal in the process, which has now resulted in another shade of good news, which he confirmed by holding his new international passport, which he acquired according to strict Portuguese law that someone is only eligible for citizenship after six years of residency.
Agu, who has seven appearances for the Super Eagles and was named in Nigeria’s preliminary list for the 2018 World Cup in Russia but did not make the final squad of 23, posted on social media: “What God cannot do does not exist, now a Portuguese.”
