American boxing icon, Flyod Mayweather Jnr (Money Man) has taken a swipe at the British heavyweight duo of Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua and Tyson Fury, as he believes someone new will soon emerge from his country to take them both to the cleaners, megasportsarena.com reports.
Speaking against the backdrop of fellow-American pugilist, Deontay ‘Bronze Bomber’ Wilder’s seventh round knock-out by Fury, which gave the Brit the World Boxing Council (WBC) belt, while Nigerian-born Joshua holds four others, Mayweather said it is just a matter of time.
He went on to predict that an unknown heavyweight will soon emerge from God’s Own Country to end Joshua and Fury’s dominance in the class, even as the new WBC title holder is already on course to fight his compatriot for his World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) belts.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn has already declared that he is ready to conclude a deal for a huge unification bout between Joshua and Fury in December, to determine the undisputed world heavyweight champion.
However, Mayweather believes that sumptuous fight will not hold, as he insists ‘AJ’ and Fury (The Gypsy King) will soon be knocked off their perch because there are other great fighters all around the world, especially in America.
Mayweather retorted: “Boxing is strong all around the world, and even if I was in the US I would say the same thing. Just because you win one fight, that doesn’t define your career. You can be up here today and down here tomorrow, so no fighter should ever take that for granted.
“Anthony Joshua is a hell of a fighter. Tyson Fury is hell of a fighter. It doesn’t matter who wins, if I’m not getting paid that’s none of my business; but the thing about boxing is that there’s great fighters all around the world, and there’s always someone ready to take that spot.
“There’s going to be a heavyweight who is not from the UK and not from the US who is going to make a lot of noise. Everybody remember that, mark it down.”
