Glasgow Rangers of Scotland defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun has admitted he felt great getting back into action with The Gers last weekend, following several weeks out with injury, which saw him miss seven matches on the trot, megasportsarena.com reports.
He eventually got back into the thick of action on Sunday and, though the match saw Rangers concede their first goal of the new campaign, the ex-Fortuna Dusseldorf, Darmstadt, Hannover, Werder Bremen and SV Mainz of Germany as well as former Brighton and Wigan Athletic of England stopper was happy to be part of his side’s 5-1 victory over Motherwell.
It completed his first game back after injury knocked him out on August 12, as he suffered a relapse during their 2-0 win at Hamilton Academical on August 29, but he held his own fairly well this time out, after entering Sunday’s game as a substitute on the hour and played the last 30 minutes in place of Filip Helander at centre back.
The 32-year-old injury-prone Super Eagles’ defender has only featured four times for Steven Gerrard’s side since moving to Ibrox Stadium from Wigan in July, but he is now hoping to put his woes behind him and settle down fully with Rangers, who are currently top of the table with 23 points from nine games, but they have played a game more than second placed holders, Celtic.
A new lease of life is what Balogun will be seeking in the Scottish Premiership, as he shakes off the muscle strain he suffered against St. Johnstone and has been struggling with the problem since then; as he missed The Gers’ last seven games, including their 4-0 victory over Willem II Tilburg of Holland last week in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers.
He will now hope to go much better than his return outing against The Dossers on Sunday, as he gave a good account of himself in the encounter, with 18 touches, won four aerial contests and made four clearances; following which he took to social media to share his excitement.
Balogun, who will now hope to play a prominent role when Rangers face Galatasaray of Turkey in their next Europa League game this Thursday, posted: “Great feeling to be back out there with the boys and get another important win. Well done lads.”
