Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho has declare his delight with the fact that his club got a Monday fixture for their clash with Leeds United in the English Premier League, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although many other players would prefer lining out on Saturdays or Sundays, Iheanacho opined that getting to play on a Monday would accord him and his colleagues more time to recover from their previous game.
The former Columbus Crew of USA and Manchester City of England youngster, who was the most valuable player when Nigeria won the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in United Arab Emirates, admitted that he and his teammates need all the rest they can get, as the fixture congestion is taking its toll on them.
Having impressed in his previous outing against Leeds back in 2018, when he netted a goal and provided an assist in a 3-1 win for Leicester, Iheanacho is happy that The Foxes got a boost heading into Monday’s game, before which they got a 1-0 win against Arsenal away at Emirates Stadium.
The Nigerian youngster did not play that game, but he is hoping to get the nod from Brendan Rodgers in Monday’s fixture, as his side go for their tenth game since the new season started for them on September 13; while also noting that the players are sometimes tired with the matches coming thick and fast.
Iheanacho told LCFC TV: “Of course two games every week, it’s not that easy, so sometimes you have tired legs. But it’s good to recover very well to be able to play in this game. So I think having to play on Monday will be a very, very good idea and it will help us to recover, having three days to prepare for the game, so the squad can be ready to face Leeds.”
