Super Eagles’ former captain, Joseph Ikpo Yobo, who is now an assistant coach in the team’s current technical crew, is back on duty for the squad, after missing a recent run of outings under controversial circumstances, megasportsarena.com reports.
Speculation went viral over Yobo’s future in the crew, after he missed the team’s trip to Vienna, Austria for two international friendlies against Cameroon and was also missing for the home-based squad’s ill-fated game versus Mexico in Los Angeles, USA.
However, in contrast with rife fears that he might have thrown in the towel or been pushed aside by the head coach, Gernot Rohr, Yobo has been spotted lining out with the players ahead of Friday’s Word Cup qualifier against Liberia.
Yobo was there lending a hand from the outset on Monday, as the players that arrived in camp early had a game of foot-volley during their recovery session, which was supervised by Rohr and goalkeepers’ trainer, Alloy Agu.
Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi and Abia Warriors of Umuahia defender, Adekunle Adeleke were first in camp before the arrival of the England-based trio of Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi.
They were followed by Moses Simon, Shehu Abdullahi, Ahmed Musa, Samuel Kalu, Oghenekaro Etebo, Francis Uzoho, Henry Onyekuru, Chidera Ejuke, Kingsley Michael and Kenneth Omeruo, as the team’s Eko Hotel abode came alive on Monday.
A total of 15 players had personalized work out sessions in the gym inside the hotel, with each of their drills running for approximately 30 minutes, before they extended unto the lawn for a light training session this evening.
There was a mild touch of controversy to the gym session, though, when hotel officials appeared to side with guests that complained about crowding, hence the need to streamline timing of the Eagles’ players usage of the centre in line with the choices of other guests.
