Former Super Eagles’ striker, Joseph Akpala has come out with a bold declaration that Club Brugge of Belgium striker, David Chidozie Okereke would fare better at their league rivals, Racing Genk, megasportsarena.com reports.
With Okereke having struggled for form since joining Club Brugge from Spezia of Italy, Akpala, who excelled with the same team several years ago, is of a view that the dreadlocks-wearing attacker needs to join Paul Ebere Onuachu’s present side.
Akpala, who emerged top scorer in the Belgian league, after doing the same in Nigeria with Bendel Insurance of Benin City back in the days, further opined that Okereke has failed to settle at Club Brugge simply because the Belgian champions play a variety of football hat does not suit his style.
Incidentally, it was Genk that first spied on Okereke when he was causing a sensation in the Italian Serie B with Spezia, but Brugge were more decisive when they paid eight million Euro to make him heir most expensive signing ever.
However, after a bright start last season, Okereke has fallen into the penumbra of things at the Belgian champions, with which he has this season played 33 matches mostly as a late substitute, with four goals and an assist to his name.
Would the former under-23 national team, Olympic Eagles’ invitee, again lost in the mire during Friday’s epic clash between both sides, in which Onuachu scored his 31st goal of the season, Akpala told La Dernière Heure: “Genk’s style would suit Okereke better.”
