Everton of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi is currently injured and fighting hard for full recovery next week, but that has not taken anything away from his market value, as he is now rated fourth highest earning African footballer, megasportsarena.com gathered.
Dramatically, only the Liverpool duo of Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane, who was on Tuesday named African Footballer of The Year 2019 as well as Nicolas Pepe at his former club, Arsenal, rate ahead of Iwobi on the latest cards of the market value of players from his continent.
Iwobi’s current value of €73m falls behind only Salah’s €175.1m, Mane’s €155.6m and Pepe’s €93.5m, but ahead of his fellow-Super Eagles star and Leicester City of England midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi, who is fifth with €70.1m on the latest cards announced this week.
The value scorecards released by CIES Football Observatory of the most valuable players in the high-profile big five leagues of Europe also put Iwobi high among the overall rank and file of top African players plying their trade in Spain’s La Liga, German Bundesliga, Italian Serie A, French Ligue 1 and the English Premier League.
A total of 166 footballers are valued at more than €50m, with the top five most valuable African players featuring in the English top-flight, where Egyptian star, Salah is rated the most expensive African player with a market value of €175.1m followed by his Senegal’s Mane at €155.6m.
Cote d’Ivoire’s Pepe takes third spot with a market value of €93.5m, while Iwobi and Ndidi rate fourth and fifth with €73m and €70.1m respectively, followed by Lille Metropole of France whiz-kid, Victor Osimhen, the most valuable Nigerian forward in the list, with a value of €62.9m; all far behind Kylian Mbappe’s €265.2m, Raheem Sterling’s €223.7m and Jadon Sancho’s €168.9m.
