Everton of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi has joined the chorus of declarations about the Super Eagles’ prospects of winning this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, as he says he and his colleagues in the Nigerian national team will not rest until they achieve what they want, megasportsarena.com reports.

Speaking against the backdrop of the side’s historic qualification for the round of 16 as the only team with a 100% mark in the group stage at AFCON 2021, the former Arsenal of England playmaker declared emphatically that they want to go all the way to the trophy.

Heading into the first knock-out match against Tunisia on Sunday in Garoua, Iwobi admitted they have a tougher match in waiting, but enthused that they will overcome The Carthage Eagles and maintain their surge to the final.

With that mission high on his mind, Iwobi is looking forward to getting another starting role in Sunday’s match, even as he admitted he was delighted to make his first start of this year’s continental soccer showpiece in the Eagles’ 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau on Wednesday.

He was one of eight players Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen opted to give minutes in the dead rubber game, as hisn side had already qualified and he could afford to line out some fringe players in the squad.

Having previously logged 46 minutes combined in the first two group matches against Egypt and Sudan, the nephew of former Eagles’ captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha got full duration action in midweek and is now seeking an encore.

Iwobi stated: “Personally I am very excited to get a start in the team but the main concern is that we were able to get nine points out of nine, we did very well.

“But we are not going to rest, we have a long way to go if we want to achieve what we want to achieve but we are very happy. I am excited to be part of a country that has so many talented players.

“The only problem is that the coach may have a headache because he doesn’t know who to choose but it’s a good headache to have.

“Whether you are starting or you are going to come on everyone gives one hundred percent and we have the quality to do so.”
