Everton of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi has revealed the secret of his ability to overcome all manner of criticism from fans and analysts, as he says all he thinks about is self-belief in himself and his ability to weather any storm he comes up against.
Megasportsarena.com repots that, speaking against the backdrop of a whiplash of reactions from Everton fans over his inconsistent form, the ex-Arsenal playmaker said he never allows any situation dampen his mood, but he is always eager to overcome all odds.
He added during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM that determination to succeed and excel also keeps firing him on, as was the case when he was told at his former club that he was not good enough for the side, but he first went on to captain The Gunners’ under-21 squad before finally gaining promotion to the main team at Emirates Stadium.
This past weekend, Iwobi was on from the start again for The Toffees, as they battled away to Manchester United in the English Premier League, and his efforts went a long way in helping the visitors return home with a 1-1 draw.
He played all 90 minutes of the game at Old Trafford, and was found severally in the highlights, as Mason Greenwood came off the bench to rescue a point for Manchester United as Everton’s improvement under Duncan Ferguson continued in a 1-1 draw.
The Eagles’ star was on top of his game, as Everton played with great tenacity and character, taking the lead courtesy of a Victor Lindelof own-goal in the 37th minute, but United’s blushes were saved when substitute, Greenwood skillfully drilled home from the edge of the box to level the result in the 77th.
In the wake of Sunday’s encounter, Iwobi has now shot his mind back to his early days, when he admitted he struggled to prove himself and faced several setbacks, but he then submitted that his ability to believe in himself, remain positive and keep working hard has led him to the level he has gained with club and country.
Iwobi said: “I am happy that I have been able to make my mark in football. It’s all about self-belief. I don’t allow what people say bother me, but I always belief in my ability to achieve what I want. I have faced many setbacks, but I don’t allow them weigh me down.
“When I was 14, I was told at Arsenal that I am not good enough, but I was always determined to prove myself. Instead of putting my head down and getting upset, I decided to prove to them that I had the ability to play in Arsenal, and luckily I was able to get through that setback.”
