Chelsea of England striker, Ike Ugbo has flown into central Europe to sign a deal that would see him join Paul Ebere Onuachu and Cyriel Dessers at Racing Gnek of Belgium, megasportsarena.com reports.
This is sequel to confirmation of an agreement reached between the club and Ugbo’s representatives, who had been ken all along on seeing him remain in Belgium.
That followed his sterling form on loan from Chelsea at Cercle Brugge of Belgium last season, such that continuity became talk of the summer for him.
Consequently, Ugbo and his agent, Collins John landed in Belgium on Tuesday morning and the former England under-17 international will undergo a medical examination at Genk on Wednesday, following which he will sign a four-year deal.
The deal is expected to keep Ugbo at the Limburg-based club until the end of the 2024/25 season, before which he will hope to justify attention he got from several clubs in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Turkey, England and Netherlands were interested in signing him.
However, despite widespread links with several top clubs, Ugbo always pointed out that his preference was to return to Belgium, where he scored 17 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions with Cercle Brugge last season.
This now marks a new chapter for the 22-year-old Ugbo, who has been at Chelsea since 2007, when he arrived as an under-10 and rose through the ranks before signing his first professional contract shortly after his 17th birthday.
Ugbo, though, failed to stamp his feet at Stamford Bridge and was loaned in quick succession to Barnsley, MK Dons and Scunthorpe United of England as well as Roda JC Kerkrade of Netherlands and Cercle Brugge of Belgium.
