Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho has received another strong backing for a change in position with club and country, as one of his teammates in the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning Golden Eaglets’ squad believes his pal is better as a support striker.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that, while many coaches at club and national team levels have surprisingly preferred playing ‘Kelele’ as a stop striker, his UAE 2013 colleague, Abdullahi Alfa insists the former Columbus Crew of America and Manchester City of England youngster is better off as a support striker.
Iheanacho has also been played from deep as an attacking midfielder during the course of his career, and he was utilised as an advanced playmaker operating on the wings during UAE 2013, when he became the first Nigerian player to score four goals in a single match, en route to getting crowned most valuable player of the competition.
Along the line, the product of Taye Football Academy of Owerri also set up seven goals and was joint-top scorer in helping the Eaglets win the Cadet Mundial for a record-extending fourth time, but Alfa insists his pal is made to be a support hitman.
While taking a closer look at Iheanacho’s prospects in the new season, based on his recent rain of goals and assists in the UEFA Europa League, Alfa added that he is delighted seeing his colleague’s progress since winning the silver boot and golden ball seven years ago in the Middle East.
Alfa told allnigeriasoccer.com: “Iheanacho is a nice guy, he is a professional and the level over there you must work hard and he’s really doing good and I wish him success.
“For me, second striker will be good for him but coaches decide what they want, they took him as a number 9 and he’s working hard, he’s scoring goals as you can see.”
