Super Eagles’ media officer, Toyin Ibitoye has expressed delight with the sterling performances being churned out by Nigerian players week in week out with their respective clubs, which he says will rub off favourable on the quality of play in the national team, megasportsarena.com reports.
Speaking against the backdrop of impressive displays by a cross-section of Eagles’ players this past weekend and the one before, Ibitoye conceded that Nigeria’s national team coach, Gernot Rohr will have difficulties in selecting his first 11 players to start each subsequent match.
However, Ibitoye added during NTA Network News that it is a welcome development for Rohr to have a ‘headache’ when trying to name his starting line-up for any match, because that would mean that the Eagles’ have quality in terms of depth and alternatives to select from.
He went on to tag it a ‘good headache’ for the coach always finding it difficult arriving at a final choice on those who will start each match, as well as selecting players that would be invited to the national team’s camp in the first place.
The Eagles’ media officer pointed out that the Eagles’ top quality is bound to be reflected in the both upcoming international friendly matches against Cote d’Ivoire and Tunisia next month, as he enthused that the current good form being seen from many of the players already signals two promising outings for the squad during the games billed to hold in Austria.
He concluded that it is always a pleasant sight always seeing Nigerian players do well with their respective clubs and disclosed that Rohr holds the same feelings once his wards excel in each match, because the former handler of Niger Republic, Burkina Faso and Gabon knows that the lads would be able to replicate same form when they get together in the national camp.
The ace broadcaster noted that the form being displayed by Victor Osimhen at SSC Napoli of Italy and Samuel Chukwueze with Villarreal of Spain are further confirmations of the top quality of Nigeria’s array of young players, but Ibitoye added that some other lads are also emerging in the European spotlight and enthused that they will all shine together in green-and-white.
Ibitoye submitted: “It’s good to see our players doing well with their clubs, not just Osimhen and Chukwueze, but many others as well. It means they will give the coach a headache in selecting his players. The coach will love to have a good headache before he can make his selections. That is something that is good for the team and we are very happy when Nigeria’s players do well.”
