Galatasaray of Turkey attacker, Henry Onyekuru could cost as much as 13m Euro in the summer transfer window, but that has left a strong cloud of uncertainty hanging over his prospects of joining the Istanbul-based Turkish Super Lig out in a full contract at the end of this season, megasportsarena.com reports.
Onyekuru is angling for a full contract with the team that gave him the escape route form a torrid spell at AS Monaco of France with a loan deal in January, and the former KAS Eupen and RSC Anderlecht of Belgium winger-cum-striker is now thinking of staying put in Istanbul.
Indeed, it was with Gala that Onyekuru revived his career last season, as he made the best of a loan deal from Everton of England to eventually shoot himself into the echelon of top-Europe-based attackers, and consequently sealed a full transfer to Monaco last summer; only for him to fall short of expectations at the Monte Carlo-based Ligue 1 club.
Having failed to cement his place in Monaco’s main team all through the first part of the current season, Onyekuru quickly got a loan deal taking him back to Galatasaray, and his return to great performances and scoring form has left the club seeking to buy him outright from Monaco, who have reportedly [placed the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations bronze medalist up for sale this summer.
However, a report by Turkish publication, Sabah disclosed that Galatasaray are battling hard to convince Monaco to reduce their asking price of 13m Euro for Onyekuru, even as the Ligue 1 side appear desperate to stick with their guns, in order to make the attacker’s possible sale part of their moves to overcome fresh financial difficulties that have hit them due to ravaging effects of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.
That has left a lull in the move by Galatasaray to buy the 22-year-old Onyekuru, who has played nine games in all competitions, including six starts, since rejoining them in January, as the Lig outfit been put off by Monaco’s price and could be pushed to turn their attention elsewhere.
