Former Super Eagles’ defender, Godfrey Oboabona has taken his efforts for a resounding career revival to East Europe, as he has signed a year’s deal with Dinamo Batumi of Georgia, who will accord him continental club action in next season’s UEFA Europa League, after finishing the last campaign second in the country’s top-flight league.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations gold medal winning central defender, who shot to limelight in the colours of Sunshine Stars of Akure, will now aim to hit top marks in the Erovnuli Liga until the end of the current season.
It is another opportunity to make a name for himself in the twilight of his career, as Obaobona had been in search of a club after parting company with HNK Gorica of Croatia at the end of the past season, such which time he made 14 appearances in the East European country’s top-flight league.
The 29-year-old Oboabona, who started his career abroad with Caykur Rizespor of Turkey, where he spent four years, before moving to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, is now aiming to make his competitive debut for Batumi in their league opener against Merani Tbilisi on February 29.
