Milwaukee Bucks of America sensation, Giannis Adetokunbo (Antetokounmpo) has received words of respect from one of his main rivals in USA’s National Basketball Association (NBA), as Brooklyn Nets’ star, Kevin Durant eulogized the Finals’ most valuable player once again.
Durant first sent encomiums to the Nigerian-born Greece international after ‘The Greek Freak’ helped send Philadelphia packing in the semi0-finals and, following The Bucks’ victory over Phoenix Suns in the final, the American icon was reeling lyrical once again.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Durant first sang songs of praise for Antetokounmpo after Brooklyn had the new champions on the edge in the second round of the play-offs, as The Nets took The Bucks to seven games and the last needed overtime to decide a winner.
Despite suffering defeat in Game 7, the 32-year-old Durant left a an emotional yet motivational message to Antetokounmpo after the game, whispering in his ears as they hugged: “Go get you one, alright? Every possession, go get you one.”
It was an iconic moment for Antetokounmpo, who went on to win the title and was named the 2021 NBA Finals MVP, as he looked up to Durant while growing up in Greece and aspired to be like his idol, who he hoped to emulate in his game.
The 26-year-old Antetokounmpo averaged 31.9 PPG in the series to go along with 12.9 RPG and 3.6 APG assists, while Durant went for 35.4 PPG to go with 10.6 RPG and 5.4 APG, following which the Nigerian-born ace, back-to-back regular season MVP for the past two seasons, went all the way to the NBA title with Milwaukee, 50 years after they last won it.
Durant’s praise singing then recurred for the new champion, as the former Longhorn posted on social media: “Nothing but respect for the Milwaukee Bucks franchise, the city of Milwaukee Bucks franchise, the city of Milwaukee and those loud ass fans. Incredible playoff run fellas!”
