Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has come out with a details of reasons behind his decision to dump offers from Morocco and Gabon, as he says he loves the project he is undertaking with Nigeria’s national team, megasportsarena.com reports.
In contrast with initial comments denying any link with The Atlas Lions and Azingo Nationale, the second of which he once handled in the past, the Franco-German gaffer has admitted both countries tried to lure him during the Africa Cup of Nations, but he insists he remains committed to Nigeria.
The 66-year-old tactician, who has also worked with Girnodins-Bordeaux of France as well as the national teams of Niger Republic and Burkina Faso, added that he is in Nigeria on a mission and will not leave until he accomplishes the task he had in mind when taking the Eagles’ job.
After leading a youthful Eagles’ squad to bronze at AFCON 2019 in Egypt, Rohr still has one year left on his contract with Nigeria, and the gaffer has now stated categorically that he has no reason to jump ship.
Speaking ahead of his trip out of Nigeria this weekend, in the company of Bordeaux winger, Samuel Kalu, Rohr emphasized that he has only just begun the work he set out to achieve when he took over the Eagles’ saddle in 2016; but added that he is happy that things are beginning to fall in place and he is learning the ropes better.
Rohr said: “I love the project here in Nigeria. I have been with the players for three years now.
“I believe we are beginning to form a good relationship which has begun to show even on the field of play.
“I came here with a work plan and I want to see it out. I still have a contract. So, for now, I remain the coach of the Super Eagles.”
