Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has disclosed that he is already pondering over three formations for Friday’s friendly against Cameroon, but admitted he is not sure which he will settle for, megasportsarena.com reports.
With few hours to go before kick-off for the game in Vienna, Austria, the former Girondins-Bordeaux of France coach, who has also previously handled the national teams of Gabon, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso said he is thinking about some innovations for his squad.
The Franco-German gaffer went on to admit that his search for something new is based mostly on the fact that at least 11 key payers failed to turn up in camp, thereby giving way to many uncapped players for the game.
However, rather than sulk over the development, Rohr went on to affirm that it is a golden opportunity for the untested lads to make their mark, even as he acknowledged that Cameroon will be seeking revenge during the game in Austria.
This he submitted is basically due to the fact that his Eagles eliminated The Indomitable Lions from the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and the 2019 Africa Cup Nations in Egypt, while also having won their last friendly 3-0 in France.
He concluded that Friday’s game will be tough, but Rohr assured that his lads will be up to the task when the whistle sounds at 8.30pm and they will give even more effort during the second friendly between the two teams on Tuesday at same venue.
Rohr posited: “Cameroon are one of the best teams in Africa. In our three last games against them, we put them out of the World Cup and out of the AFCON, so they want to take revenge.
“But we also want to win this game, to test some players, a lot of players are not here, more than 11 players could not come.
“This is our last preparation game before the World Cup qualifiers in September, so it’s very important. It’s an opportunity to see other players, give them a chance to play and to get the result I hope.
“The players are motivated, they want to do well. We will try to do well in the first game with a good organisation. We have several possibilities – 4-3-3, 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1.”
