Gavin Bazunu has reportedly told Manchester City that he is looking to play regular football next season with a move away from the Etihad Stadium on the cards, Megasportsarena.com reports.
Bazunu spent this season on loan at Portsmouth and enjoyed a successful season under the guidance of Danny Cowley. The keeper made 46 appearances for Pompey across all competitions and kept 17 clean sheets.
The 20-year-old has now returned to his parent club Manchester City, with the likes of Ederson and Zack Steffen ahead of him in Pep Guardiola’s pecking order, the likelihood of Bazunu realising his wish of playing regular football at City is slim.
Bazunu has recently spoken about his future, with the goalie insisting that he wants to make the “best choice” he can, with the goalkeeper admitting that he was unsure of his future, although he did not rule out another stint away from the club.
“I have absolutely no idea, but I’m open to everything,” he said, speaking to Portsmouth’s You Tube channel. “I’ve got to go and meet some people at Manchester City and see what they have to say, but my aim is just to go and play again. I’ve got to continue to get games under my belt and keep these experiences coming. So whatever they say, I will take it into consideration and I’ll make the best choice I can.”
Another loan at Portsmouth is extremely unlikely as Bazunu will be looking to further develop his career at a higher level. Pompey’s bitter south coast rivals Southampton , along with Bournemouth, are reportedly keen on handing Bazunu a chance to impress in the Premier League. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Saints are likely to search for a new goalkeeper with the future of Fraser Forster still uncertain.
