Joseph Akpala has been appointed as an assistant coach of KV Kortrijk, a First Division club in Belgium, Megasportsarena.com reports.
The former Super Eagles fringe player was announced alongside Jimmy Hempte, and they will join Adnan Custovic’s technical staff at KV Kortrijk, the D1A club announced on Friday.
Joseph Akpala, 36, is no stranger to Belgian football, he was active on the Belgian fields for years as a striker. He played for Charleroi, Club Brugge and KV Oostende, scoring 76 goals in the Belgian league in 234 appearances.
Akpala started his career at Charleroi, with which he became the top scorer in the in 2008 with eighteen goals. He then moved to Club Brugge (2008-2012).
After spells in the German Bundesliga with Werder Bremen and the Turkish club Karabukspor, the attacker ended up at KV Oostende in 2015. There he left three years later for an adventure in Saudi Arabia, only to return to the coastal squad for a handful of months at the end of 2019.
Akpala last played professional football at Dinamo Bucharest, where he called time on his club career.
