Bournemouth of England striker, Dominic Solanke is still basking in the euphoria of his return to goals scoring form and used the opportunity to declare that his club will escape relegation from this English Premier League this season, megasportsarena.com reports.
After notching two goals in a shock 4-1 spanking of Leicester City last Sunday, Solanke and his pals lost 2-1 away to Manchester City on Wednesday, but the Nigerian-born star, who has previously played for Chelsea and Liverpool, insists The Cherries’ form over their last two games is evocative of their ability to avoid dropping into the English Championship.
The 22-year-old mulatto added that he personally hopes to fire Bournemouth to another great escape, after picking an opportune moment to end his lengthy goal drought with an amazing and crucial second-half brace that helped his side to breathe fresh life into their survival bid.
Before then, Solanke had gone 38 top-flight appearances without finding the net since his £19m arrival from Liverpool in January 2019, but the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup winner and most valuable player, who has been capped once at senior level by England, admits his prolonged period without scoring was an unpleasant experience for him.
However, Solanke believes the dark days are over for him and declared that he is quite eager to add to his tally of goals as the season drags to a close, because he is deeply determined to help Eddie Howe’s squad avoid the drop.
As the season hits a climax, Bournemouth, who moved to within three points of safety with the win over Leicester, still have to ward off pressure from fellow-relegation threatened Watford and West Ham United, but Solanke is staying upbeat ahead of their home game against south-coast rivals Southampton and a trip to Everton on the final day of the campaign.
Solanke, whose previous Premier League goal came when Liverpool beat Brighton 4-0 in May 2018, said: “We know it’s not going to be easy, especially with a team like Man City next but we need every point we can get at the moment. It was probably the best time for them to come.
“The first one was to take the lead so that was a big emotion. To go on and get the second one was a delight for me. I think the position we are in at the moment isn’t great but the past few games we have been building up.
“If you look at the history of the club, we’ve beaten the odds a lot of times and hopefully we can do it again. It’s been quite difficult for us recently. It hasn’t been nice but it’s good to get the goals. Hopefully I can take that confidence and get a few more.
“Obviously the fans can’t be here to witness it at the moment but they can watch at home on TV. Hopefully they watched, were happy with the result and in the last few games we can kick on and stay in the Premier League.”
