Bayern Munich of Germany defender, David Olatokunbo Alaba is set to join Real Madrid of Spain in a five-year deal worth £10.5m, but he would be arriving as a free agent, megasportsarena.com reports.
Information in this regard has been provided in separate news items from both Germany and Spain, whee a leading publication has disclosed that an official announcement of the transfer is expected early this weekend.
Alaba has been at Bayern since 2008 but turned down multiple offers to extend his contract, including a €15m-a-year deal, but talks ceased in November.
He enjoyed a prolific 13 years in Bavaria, winning 10 Bundesliga titles, two Champions Leagues and six German Cups, but he now looks set to join Los Blancos in the coming hours.
Manchester City of England tried to lure Alaba to Etihad Stadium last summer, through the influence of their coach, Pep Guardiola, who once handled the lad at Munich, and The Citizens hoped to include him as part of the deal which saw Leroy Sane move to Munich.
The Austria international had also been attracting interest from City’s EPL rivals, Liverpool and Chelsea, but latest information from Germany and Spain reveals that he is now heading for Santiago Bernabeu.
One part of the report by Sky Germany revealed that Alaba will sign a five-year deal with Real that will earn him around £10.5m per year following the expiration of his Bayern deal.
Spanish newspaper, Marca added that Alaba has already been in the capital of Spain since Tuesday, visiting Real’s Valdebebas training complex and searching for property in the area.
