Nigerian-born England youth international, Daniel Oyegoke has snubbed an offer of a contract extension at Arsenal, as he prefers seeking accelerated progress elsewhere.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, in contrast with the recent example set by Folarin Balogun, who put pen to paper on a new deal two months back, Oyegoke has opted to otherwise.
This is against popular opinion that there is a rosy future ahead at Arsenal for the young defender, who was only last year involved with The Gunners’ first-team in pre-season.
However, in variance with all expectations at Emirates Stadium, Oyegoke boldly turned down a new contract offer from Arsenal at the start of this week.
A report by Jeorge Bird’s Arsenal Youth website added: “The defender announced that he is leaving The Gunners, having rejected the offer of a professional contract.
“He can play as a midfielder, though is now mainly a right-back but has also operated in the opposite full-back berth as well as at the heart of the defence.
“Oyegoke joined Arsenal from Barnet in 2017 and made his debut for the U18s against Chelsea as an U15 player.”
This opens a new chapter in the career progression for Oyegoke, who joined Arsenal from Barnet and rose through the ranks before signing a scholarship deal for The Gunners’ U18s.
Last season, he appeared in twelve matches for Arsenal’s U21 and U23 teams, and was involved in four matches in the U18 Premier League, but he has now taken to social media to confirm his exit from Emirates Stadium.
Oyegoke posted: “What a journey it’s been @arsenal! I have learnt so much during my time at this great club and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
“Thank you to the staff and players that have helped me along the way, I am so grateful for the opportunity and chance to stay, but it’s time for a new challenge. Thank you for everything!”
