The England-based Nigerian-born duo of Rotherham United winger, Chiedozie Ogbene and Norwich City center back, Andrew Omobamidele are bound to move out of the reach of any future cap with the Super Eagles, as they have both been called yup to Republic of Ireland’s senior national team.
In contrast with earlier reports that both players might be inclined towards starring for Nigeria in the near future, they now look likely to follow the example of Manchester City of England goalkeeper, Gavin Bazunu, who is two games away from being cap-tied to Ireland.
Megasportsarena.com reports that this is sequel to the latest squad announcement by Ireland’s Football Association, with Banuzu, Ogbene and Omobamidele all named to the roster, along with already cap-tied Norwich City of England striker, Adam Idah.
Ogbene and Omobamidele are two of the four new invitees for friendlies against Andorra and Hungary, holding in Barcelona and Budapest on June 3rd and June 8th respectively, ahead of which Ireland’s coach, Stephen Kenny has named a 27-man squad.
Born in Lagos 24 years ago, Ogbene gets his first call-up to The Boys In Green, after pledging his international allegiance to Ireland over Nigeria and he appeared in 12 games for Rotherham In the recently concluded season, but a knee injury restricted his playing time.
In the same vein, Omobamidele has represented Ireland at U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels in the past, following which the 18-year-old soared this season at Norwich, starting the last eight matches of The Canaries in gaining promotion from the English Championship.
