Chelsea of England youth team player, Tariq Uwakwe may end up snubbing a January loan offer from English Championship side, Derby County by moving to either Swansea City or Hull City instead, megasportsarena.com gathered.
This is sequel to reports indicating that Swansea and Hull have also both tabled rival bids for the youngster, which could see one of them topple Derby as the club initially thought to be most likely to grab Uwakwe.
With Chelsea keen on seeing the youngster move to the lower division to further develop his talent and output, there had been wide speculation that Uwakwe would be on his way to Pride Park, considering the success Blues’ new central defence star, Fikayo Tomori had with the same club last season, while their current gaffer, Frank Lampard was also in charge of The Rams.
However, The Mirror reports that Swansea and Hull have both been tracking the 20-year-old midfielder’s progress, and they are now set to usurp Derby in moving for the lad, who Chelsea are keen on seeing go out on an 18 month loan spell to help him get regular first team action.
The same ploy worked for Chelsea’s earlier youth team graduates like Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Tomori, as they were able to get valuable playing time in the lower division, which should also work with Uwakwe, who has represented England at under-20 level.
However, buffs at Stamford Bridge are now turn among Swansea, Hull and Derby as the next destination for Uwakwe, who joined Chelsea aged nine, was a key part of their FA Youth Cup success and featured for them in the UEFA Youth League.
A report by The Sun first noted that Derby were keen on a move for the 20-year-old Uwakwe, but Daily Mail added that their Championship rivals, Hull and Swansea have joined the chase for his signature on an 18-month loan deal.
The Mail added: “Uwakwe has impressed at youth level in recent years for Chelsea, but is yet to make a first-team appearance and hasn’t been out on loan either. The former England Under-20 international would develop his game massively with minutes at senior level and it looks like that is expected to happen in the near future.
“He is a central midfielder that usually plays in the centre of the park linking up play, but he’s also shown he has the versatility to play in wide areas and has decent pace. With three teams interested in the midfielder, it leaves Chelsea with a big decision to make over his future.”
