Nigeria’s under-23 national team, Olympic Eagles’ captain, Azubuike Okechuwu has revealed that he will remain on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir of Turkey until June, as his deal from Pyramids FC of Egypt ends with the current season, megasportsarena.com gathered.
In contrast with reports in certain circles that he is heading back to Egypt in the January transfer window, the 22-year-old battling midfielder stressed that he is sticking with Baseksehir till the end of the current campaign.
The former Bayelsa United of Yenagoa midfielder, who joined the Istanbul-based club on loan from Pyramid in July, has become a very vital member of the team as they continue their push for a first ever Turkish Super Lig title, and he admits he wants to be part of their run to glory.
Having featured in 12 domestic championship matches so far this season, with six appearances in the UEFA Europa League, Okechukwu said he is no hurry to leave, especially as the agreement between clubs runs till the summer of 2020.
He, however, admitted that the initially loan spell with Basaksehir was billed to end in the winter window, but both clubs agreed along the line to extend the deal until the summer, with the Turkish side given an option of extending the agreement into a full transfer.
Okechukwu told AOIFootball.com: “My stay with Istanbul is actually till the end of the season, no permanent transfer was agreed so I will remain on loan till June.”
