Former Beitar Jerusalem of Israel attacker, Augustine Chidi Kwem has followed in the footsteps of Daniel Akpeyi and Emmanuel Ofuosa as the next Nigerian player to sign for Chippa United of South Africa, with the product of Seesports Football Academy set to star for The Chilli Boyz in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) this season.
Kwem is on course to continue the Nigerian tradition at Chippa United, after the Rainbow Nation club confirmed him among their new signings ahead of the start of the 2019/20 Absa Premiership season, along with two defenders from Zimbabwe, twin brothers, Kevin and Elvis Moyo.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that it is another leap for 21-year-old Kwem, who was in 2016 linked with a move to Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel in place of fellow-Nigerian striker, Olarenwaju Kehinde, who started his career in Israel with the club’s under-19 team.
Chippa disclosed in a media statement that they are happy to secure the services of Kwem and the Zimbabwe duo, as well as former Mamelodi Sundowns fullback, Mzikayise Mashaba, who can also play in-field, as he ends two years without kicking a ball in competitive football.
Kwem will now hope to hit the ground running from the word go, when Chippa’s coach, Clinton Larsen gets the new campaign under way in their first fixture at home with newcomers, Stellenbosch United on August 3.
Akpeyi’s former club added: “The arrival of gifted Zimbabwean international twins Kevin and Elvis Moyo has reasserted Chippa United’s intentions to finish in the Top 8 in the upcoming season.
“The Moyo twins, who play at centre back and left back respectively, were signed from Zimbabwean football giants, FC Platinum.
“The club also welcomes our former captain and Bafana Bafana international Diamond Thopola.
“The midfield maestro Meshack Maphangule and young defender Sandile Mthethwa have also joined us from Orlando Pirates.
“Another exciting signing is that of former Sundowns left back Mzikayise Mashaba and Nigerian international striker Augustine Kwem.”
