Glasgow Rangers of Scotland midfielder, Joe Aribo is still basking in the euphoria of his first goal of the new season in the Scottish Premier League (SPL) and used the opportunity of his effort in his club’s 3-0 spanking of St. Johnstone to declare that he ys determined to hit target more than ever before.
Aribo hit home The Gers’ third goal in Wednesday’s victory, which took them top of the three-week old table, and he went on to confess that he is eager to add more goals to his game overall and would love a situation in which he gets more numbers to his tally the new campaign, in order to make a mark for himself and help his team finally claim the SPL title.
Megasportsarena.com reports that they staged a bold challenge for the prize on Wednesday, as Borna Barisic, Ryan Kent and Aribo all scored in a comfortable win that helped the Ibrox outfit edge above Hibernian to the Scottish Premiership summit; and it could have been better had two attempts at assists from the Nigerian lad pulled through.
Aribo found Hagi all alone 30 yards out and for the first time in the game, the Romanian made a contribution worthy of note as he fired the ball wide for Barisic; after which the Super Eagles’ rookie then teed up Morelos for a strike which Parish parried wide, but no-one was keeping tabs on the former Charlton playmaker as Tavernier delivered the corner and he glanced home at the near post.
The opposing side’s Nigerian-born youngster Isaac Olaofe should have given Saints some cheer late on but fired his header straight at McLaughlin, while Roofe was denied a maiden goal by Parish’s block; while Aribo is already looking forward to scoring again in the next match away to Livingston on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Ondo State indigene, who helped Rangers to back-to-back victories in their first two matches this term, admitted he is hoping to do more with his contribution in front of goal and believes the presence of the club’s coaching duo of Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister will help him achieve his ambitions.
Although Nigerian football fans have already see his quality in just two matches with the Super Eagles, starting with a goal against Brazil on his debut last October, the former Charlton Athletic of England dazzler insists he is yet to get to the point he would love to be in front of goal and he wants Gerard to help him become a top-scoring midfielder.
Aribo revealed: “That’s the one thing I’ve always wanted to be known as, a goalscoring midfielder. I’ve sat down with the gaffer and we spoke about it, so I know that is one area I need to improve on. I think it’s a case of wanting to be in the right place at the right time and having the willingness and the desire to be there.
“It’s also about being calmer in front of goal as well, not slashing at shots and taking your time with them. Hopefully, that will help me get more goals. But I feel I have developed a lot and I’m learning day in day out in games and on the training field as well.
“When you look at the staff, you have the gaffer and Macca, two great players that have played in my position too. So I can just take little things off them every single day and, of course, you learn in matches.”
