Chelsea’s Nigerian trio of Faustino Anjorin, Tariq Uwakwe and Jordan Aina have received a ray of hope over their chances of starring this season in the UEFA Champions League, as they have all been named in The Blues’ B-list for the European elite clubs’ competition, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Anjorin, Uwakwe and Aina are not in The Blues’ main list for the competition, they stand a chance of being upgraded should they perform well in training with the main team, as they are eligible to feature in the championship, because they are all registered with the club’s under-21 team and have been with the London-based outfit for an uninterrupted run of two years since their 15th birthdays.
The only stumbling block facing Anjorin, Uwakwe and Aina is that Chelsea must make a request to UEFA prior to midnight of a day before any UCL match in which they plan to list any or all of the teenagers in the A-squad, which already has the Nigerian-born duo of Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori, who are both assured regular spots in the 18-man roster of each fixture.
While Abraham is already rated as Chelsea’s leading striker for the season and will wear jersey number 9 in the UCL, Tomori, who is a central defender born in Canada and an England youth international, will don kit arrayed with the figure 29.
