Super Eagles’ captain, Ahmed Musa has added his voice to growing disappointment with news that fans and journalists have been barred from being present at Nigeria’s match against Sierra Leone this Friday in Benin City, saying it is sad that he and his teammates will not have the opportunity of playing in front of their supporters.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, while pointing out that he mother was a native of Benin, Musa added that he would have been buoyed playing in front of his paternal relatives, but stressed that he is ready to overcome the setback and ensure he gives his best for the nation.
With that in mind, Musa, who is currently clubless after leaving Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia by mutual consent early this month, interjected that the Eagles aim to win both home and away in the Africa Cup of Nations qualification double-header against The Leone Stars.
He affirmed that the Eagles will have to get victory home and away against Sierra Leone in order to book an early ticket to Cameroon 2022, hence his charge for maximum points this on Friday as well as in the return leg next Tuesday in Freetown.
Heading into Friday’s first leg, the Eagles are top of their qualifying section with six points from two matches and Musa, who was part of the Nigerian squad that won the 2013 AFCON in South Africa and finished third last year in Egypt, believes winning the next two games should take them through to the next edition in Cameroon.
Musa submitted: “We know that if won the next two games, we will qualify for the AFCON and by the grace of God we will do that. Fans need victories and we hope to do that for them. It’s sad we will not be playing in front of our fans.
“Benin is my mother’s hometown and I would have loved to see my family watch me play. But there is nothing we can do because of the situation we find ourselves.”
