Chelsea striker, Tammy Abraham has received a strong charge to continue his international career with England, rather than make a switch to Nigeria, as former Arsenal midfielder, Ray Parlour believes it is better for the lanky lad to stick with what he has already started, megasportsarena.com.
Having already starred for England at youth level and in some B-internationals, Parlour is of a view that the four-goal hero with Chelsea after four matches in the English Premier League this season should not stop what he started.
Although Parlour went on to affirm that the final decision is up to the former Aston Villa striker, The Gunners’ ex-star added that Abraham will surely get a call by England if he continues scoring for Chelsea, but admitted that the youngster’s international future is a big subject of debate, as he is eligible to represent either Nigeria or England.
Although he said Abraham has the final say on what he wants, Parlour advised the England U21 striker to shun Nigeria’s move for his services, saying the Chelsea lad should continue his career with the Three Lions, for which he has featured in two friendly matches.
Nigeria have been told to wait until April next year to know the player’s final decision over his international career, but Parlour reckons that Abraham will be handed a recall to England coach, Gareth Southgate’s team if he maintains his current goals scoring form.
Parlour told talkSPORT: “Once you start with a country as a youngster, I think you should stick with them.
“If he keeps scoring goals, he will definitely get into the England squad. He’s got an opportunity to be in the squad, but obviously he won’t be in front of Harry Kane.
“As a manager, you’d be on the phone straight away saying, ‘You’re in my plans, keep playing as you are, and you’ll get an opportunity’. That’s what I’d be doing if I was Gareth Southgate.
“It’s up to the player; he’s looking at whether he’ll get an opportunity. It’s a battle, because there are a lot of good players at England, and you’ll get a lot more caps if you go elsewhere.”
