A thick cloud of doubt is hanging over the likely exit of Super Eagles’ midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi from Leicester City of England, as The Foxes have signaled his arrival for pre-season training, megasportsarena.com gathered.
In spite of earlier speculation that the former Racing Genk of Belgium midfield lynchpin could be on his way to either Liverpool or Manchester City of England this summer, Leicester appear determined to keep him for next season.
This much has been signaled with reports that Ndidi should be heading back to King Power Stadium in the middle of this month, for the commencement of pre-season drills under Brendan Rodgers and The Foxes’ crew.
That could be a huge blow for latest career aspirations of the battling midfielder, who was recently in action with Nigeria against Cameroon in the two international friendlies played in Vienna, Austria, but should now be heading home for holidays.
He will spend the holidays ruminating over a summer deal that is set to get stuck in the mire, as Leicester are not ready to allow the exit of the dynamo that filled to vacuum left behind by French ace, N’Golo Kante, who was part of their English Premier League winning squad in 2016.
A report by allnigeriasoccer.com added: “Wilfred Ndidi will report for pre-season training at Leicester City as things stand amid speculation linking the holding midfielder with a ‘possible departure’ from the King Power Stadium in the summer.
“The Foxes hierarchy, manager Brendan Rodgers in particular, has not informed Ndidi that he would be sold and the Nigeria international is amazed by the reports.
“It was claimed that Leicester City have targeted Brighton & Hove’s Mali midfielder Yves Bissouma as a replacement for Ndidi in the event that he departs the Foxes before the close of the summer transfer window.
“Leicester City are in advanced talks to sign Boubakary Soumaré but the Lille star is not viewed as a like-for-like replacement for Ndidi.
“The former Racing Genk ace has emerged as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League since joining Leicester City in January 2017, and is rated as the most valuable player in the Foxes squad by Transfermarkt.
“Ndidi, who has a contract with Leicester City until June 2024, has racked up 176 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals and has eleven assists to his name.”
