Leicester City of England midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi is finding the newly introduced winter break in the English Premier League most useful, as he will utilize the time out to recover fully from a recent knee injury that relapsed last weekend, megasportsarena.com reports.
Despite returning to action miraculously after going for surgery the previous week, Ndidi had to be left out of last weekend’s fixture against Chelsea, but his club’s coach, Brendan Rodgers has now disclosed that it was just a precaution to help the lad recover better.
With that game done and dusted, a 2-2 draw that kept The Foxes third on the EPL table, Rodgers is now looking up to the winter break to further help Ndidi’s healing process, during which he is confident the former Racing Genk of Belgium star will get enough time to overcome the injury.
After going on as a 34th-minute substitute in Leicester’s 4-1 win over West Ham United and then played the full 90 minutes of their Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg loss to Aston Villa six days later, Ndidi was pulled out of Saturday’s home draw with Chelsea, despite making a remarkable recovery from surgery to remove a piece of floating bone in the meniscus.
However, he now gets more time to rest and recover, following his return to action just 12 days after surgery and, with The Foxes not in action now until their upcoming Valentine’s Day clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Rodgers is hopeful the 23-year-old Super Eagles’ star will be able to play against the former team of Nigeria’s retired goalkeeper, Carl Onuoha Ikeme.
Rodgers expatiated: “We just thought it was too big a risk really. He was down to play, even right up until the team-sheet going in, well before the game, but gradually he felt the pain.
“I can just tell. I’ve known Wilf long enough now. He’s a real warrior and a tough player, so to see him in the pain when he walked, it just made no sense to risk him. We took it out of his hands, let him rest. He’s got a period of rest now, which will help his knee.”
