Spartak Moscow of Russia winger, Victor Moses has expressed appreciation to the club’s fans for naming him their best player for the month of May, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although the former Super Eagles’ star spent the campaign on loan from Chelsea of England, where he had been deemed surplus to requirements, he ended up playing a sterling role in Spartak’s surge into next season’s European club competition.
His performances caught the love of the Moscow-based club’s supporters, who gleefully named him their official player for the last month in the season, and Moses has now reciprocated by stating his appreciation and delight.
The former Crystal Palace and Wigan Athletic of England star, who previously played on loan from Chelsea at Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham United in the English Premier League, as well as with Fernebahce of Turkey and Inter Milan of Italy, is also promising to do much better next season.
That would depend on if Spartak are able to extend his loan deal or sign him on a full contract, but Moses is not allowing the uncertainty worry him for now, as he basks in the euphoria of the prestigious trophy presented him by the fans.
He went on to admit that he was truly delighted with his form that helped The Muscovites achieve their target of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Their spot was confirmed on the final day of the season, when they played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Akhmat Grozny, against who Moses hit home a crucial equaliser eight minutes from time.
That goal helped The Red & Whites finish second on the Russian Premier League table and earned them the right to feature in the UCL’s third qualifying round, much to the delight of Spartak fans.
They subsequently recognized Moses for his efforts and voted him as the club’s player of the month for May, which the supporters’ leader, Ramil Khusyanov gleefully presented to him and the winger-cum-wing-back has now responded in gratitude.
Moses told Spartak Moscow’s official YouTube channel: “Thank you! I really appreciate this.
“I’ll do my very best to help the team, most importantly try to achieve more things this season than we did last year.
“The most important thing is to enjoy football and I’ll definitely do that this year and help the team to win the league. I scored the last goal May, it was the last game of the season.
“I was very pleased obviously to score the goal but the most important thing is the hard work the team put together, and I thought we did very well, two goals down and came back.
“Quincy with the goal in the second half and me scoring the last goal to make it 2-2 as well to give us the qualification for the Champions League which was very good for us.”
