Cardiff City of Wales new arrival, Uche Ikpeazu is still basking in the goal he scored on his debut for the English Championship side, but stressed that he has steep ambitions he wants to achieve ahead of him with The Bluebirds.

Ikpeazu, who has a Nigerian father and Ugandan mother, admitted he was thrilled with his lone goal that helped his new team win 1-0 away to Barnsley on Wednesday, then declared emphatically that more will come.

He went on to affirm that he is aiming to take Cardiff higher than where they are at present, as he is of a view that the former English Premier League club that once paid the wages of Peter Osaze Odemwingie should be back in the top-flight.

He added that he spoke to two of his teammates at his immediate past club, Middlesbrough of England before his loan move to Cardiff on transfer deadline day, as he sought advice from the duo of Sol Bamba and Lee Peltier, who are both former players of The Bluebirds.

The 26-year-old attacker further disclosed that they both told him good things about the club and he quickly agreed to sign a loan deal to escape pressure at The Riverside, following Boro’s loan capture of Folarin Balogun and Aaron Connolly from Arsenal and Brighton respectively.

Ikpeazu, who has also played for Wycombe Wanderers and grabbed his debut goal versus Barnsley nine minutes after getting off the bench at Oakwell, opined: “Cardiff City are an amazing club and I love the stadium.

“I spoke to Sol Bamba and Lee Peltier, and they said that Cardiff City are one of the best clubs they’ve ever played for.

“Cardiff City are one of the best teams in the Championship and should be higher up the division. I want to help this team climb up the table.

“When I had the option of joining I wanted to do it. There has always been something about the club I always liked.”
