Fulham of England winger, Josh Onomah led an array of Nigerian-born players that hit target on the opening weekend of action in the lower division English Championship, with Philip Chinedu Billing also adding one for Bournemouth and Uche Ikpeazu was on song for Middlesbrough.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Onomah led the spree for Fulham on Saturday, as The Cottagers are aiming for an instant return to the Premier League following relegation last season and put the Terriers to the sword.
A bizarre goal from Aleksandar Mitrovic, after Terriers goalkeeper Ryan Schofield fluffed a clearance, set them on their way with further first-half goals from Onomah and Fabio Carvalho stamping their authority.
Matty Pearson registered for hapless Huddersfield but that was as good as it got, even with Fulham finishing with 10 men after Harry Wilson’s red card as Ivan Cavaleiro’s late double completed the rout.
Same evening in the Championship, Billing helped Bournemouth survive the expulsion of one of their players, as The Cherries held out for a 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest.
Goals from Billing and David Brooks, who would later on get a red card, helped Bournemouth edge a tight contest at City Ground.
Brooks put the Cherries in front in the 28th minute with a nice finish and, while Scott McKenna’s header cancelled that out three minutes after half-time.
Scott Parker’s men took the lead again through another well-taken goal, this time from Billing, in the 58th minute.
Brooks was shown a second yellow card two minutes later, but Bournemouth showed intelligent game management to claw their way to the final whistle and three points.
Elsewhere, Ikpeazu and Matt Crooks found the net for the first time in a Middlesbrough shirt to secure a 2-1 Championship victory over Bristol City at a noisy Riverside Stadium.
Boro deserved the lead and looked in complete control once Ikpeazu, who moved from Wycombe this summer, had found the net with seven minutes remaining of the first half.
That made it the perfect outcome for Boro boss Neil Warnock who, despite being in charge for more than a year, was overseeing his first Middlesbrough game in front of a big Riverside crowd.
