Derby County of England are bound to lose the services of their in-form Nigerian-born stopper, Fikayo Tomori, as the youngster has caught the eye of Glasgow Celtic of Scotland, and could be heading out for a hefty summer transfer from Pride Park to Parkhead.
British tabloid, The Daily Star revealed that Celtic are interested in a deal Tomori, who is on loan at The Rams from Chelsea, and his form in the past campaign put The Hoops on red alert to snatch him next month.
Celtic, who previously also had fellow-Nigerian central defender, Efe Ambrose on their cards, before releasing him to join Hibernian and now on the fringes of a contract at Derby, are plotting a very ambitious move to land Tomori this summer.
The 21-year-old Tomori has been a key player in Derby’s promotion push under Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard, who has coached The Rams to the promotion play-off final this season.
Tomori put in another assured display in a frenetic come-from-behind 4-2 semi-final second leg win over Leeds United, after losing the first leg 1-0 at home, such that the former Canada youth international continues to stand out in the heart of Lampard’s back-line.
Tomori kept Patrick Bamford and others quiet, to help The Rams reach the Championship play-off final, in which they will battle Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium next Monday, May 27th.
The Daily Star disclosed further in their report: “His succession of imperious performances have sparked interest from Celtic, who are keen to see if a permanent deal can be done.”
