Crotone of Italy are bound to lose the services of their top scorer, Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo (Simy) this summer, but they will smile to the bank with a princely sum of 10m euro from his expected transfer, megasportsarena.com reports.
With Crotone having failed to keep themselves up in the top-flight Italian Serie A, their chances of retaining ‘Simy’ for their return to action next season in Serie B appear very slim, but they will have a financial cushion as consolation.
That consolation, though, is still facing a cloud of uncertainty, as several clubs continue being named in connection with Simy’s expected departure from the relegated side, and Serie A champions, Inter Milan are now the latest to be linked with the tall hitman.
Transfer updates from The Land of The Azuzri indicate that Inter, who recently had former Super Eagles’ winger, Victor Moses on their cards, in a loan deal from Chelsea of England, have added Simy’s name to their summer transfer radar.
The 29-year-old former Gil Vicente of Portugal striker has one year left on his contract at Crotone but that will not stop him from leaving, amidst a strong hint that he is available for a fee in the region of ten million euros.
He is now bound to follow the footsteps of Nwankwo Kanu, Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins and Victor Obinna Nsofor as the next Nigerian attacker to join The Nerazzurri, whose new coach, Simone Inzaghi is concentrating on signing quality players for cheap.
Inzaghi, though, will have to step up his efforts, as two of his club’s Serie A rivals, Fiorentina and Genoa are also in the race for the lanky striker along with Brighton & Hove Albion of England.
The race is now on to see which club would eventually sign Simy, who scored 20 goals and got three assists in 38 matches last season, but he has been quoted saying playing in the English Premier League next term is his biggest target.
