Nigeria’s senior football national team, Super Eagles will return to competitive action on September 3, when they take on The Lone Star of Liberia at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos at the start of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that this is contained in details of the African World Cup qualifying schedule, which will also see the three-time champions of the continent tango Cape Verde and Central African Republic.
A breakdown of the scheduled revealed that the Eagles will face a tough schedule to qualify for next year’s Mundial, as there will be just few days hanging between qualifiers in a spree of competitive matches spread across two back-to-back months.
The team that has reached the round of 16 only twice, though they missed only the 2006 edition in Germany after first qualifying at USA ‘94, will get their campaign started in the second round of the qualifiers on September 3 in Lagos against Liberia.
The Eagles will then fly out to face potential giant killers Cape Verde four days later (September 7), after which they confront a double header against Central African Republic (CAR) on October 6 and 12.
The Eagles will play the first leg at home then travel to CAR for the reverse fixture, after which they will then play reverse ties away to Liberia and home with Cape Verde on November 11 and 16.
Action will then halt until March 2022, when the group winner gets involved in a final play-off hoe-and-away tie with one of the top placed sides in the other nine groups for a place at the Mundial in Qatar, which will kick off on November 21, 2022.
