Glasgow Rangers of Scotland midfielder, Joe Aribo has disclosed that he and his colleagues in the Nigerian national team will maintain their winning mometum in their second match at the Africa Cup of Nations with the same starting 11 that dumped Egypt on Tuasday.
Aribo will get the chance of making the best of his second ever AFCON outing, as he lines out in an unchanged selection that was reeled out by Super Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen.
True to type, Eguavoen kept hold of his starting line-up almost just one hour before kick-off in Garoua, Cameroon and, when it finally emerged, Aribo was named among the lot.
Megasportsarena.com reports that this means the former Charlton Athletic of England dazzler once again joins Leicester City’s Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi in the middle of the pack.
Star performer, FC Nantes of France winger, Moses Simon understandably keeps his place down the left flank, while Samuel Chukwueze surprisingly retained his spot, despite enduring a torrid day in the opening Group D clash with Egypt.
In attack is match day hero against the Pharaohs and official best player of that game, Kelechi Iheanacho, who is once again deployed behind Union Berlin of Germany striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, in search of a goal in his second AFCON game.
Conversely, Emil Maduka Okoye will aim to keep a second straight clean sheet in the competition, with support in the back-four coming from Zaidu Sanusi on the left, Ola Aina on the right as well as Kenneth Omeruo and stand-in captain, William Troost-Ekong in central defence.
Aribo affirmed that the Eagles will be aiming for three points when they face off with Sudan in the encounter, which would see them qualify for the last 16 after the fixture at Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua, where The Gers’ star admitted he was happy to help Nigeria beat Egypt 1-0 on Tuesday.
Aribo told NFF TV: “It was a nice feeling for me of course being my first AFCON game so it was just a really nice experience and most importantly to get the three points.
“It was really good, we knew it was important for us to stay solid, stay together as a team, work hard and give that extra ten percent.
“It has been very good, the boys are ready, we rested from the last game and we’re just ready to go and prepared.
“Literally like the Egypt game we want to win every single game, we want to take every game as it comes so that’s what we are aiming for to get the victory, get the three points and put in a good performance.”
